Opera Australia
Opera Australia, the country’s national opera company, presents the largest opera season in the southern hemisphere, performing principally at the Sydney Opera House and at Arts Centre Melbourne. Formed in its modern shape in 1996, it carries a lineage reaching back to the founding of national opera in Australia. The company is celebrated for the scale and ambition of its programming, from the core Italian, French and German repertoire to its spectacular Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, staged on a purpose-built outdoor stage against the backdrop of the city. Performing inside one of the most recognizable buildings on earth, Opera Australia brings opera to large national audiences and represents Australian lyric art internationally.
