New York City Ballet

New York City Ballet was founded in 1948 by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, and it remains the institutional embodiment of Balanchine’s revolutionary neoclassical style — plotless, musically driven, athletic and clean. With Jerome Robbins as a defining collaborator, the company built one of the most distinctive repertoires in dance. Resident at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, NYCB dances an enormous body of Balanchine and Robbins works alongside a steady stream of new ballets, and its annual "George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker" is a cornerstone of the New York season. The company’s school, the School of American Ballet, trains the majority of its dancers, perpetuating a house style of remarkable coherence and the fastest, most musical classical dancing in America.
