Houston Ballet

Houston Ballet grew from a ballet foundation established in 1955 and gave its first professional performances in 1969, rising to become one of the largest classical companies in the United States. It performs at the Wortham Theater Center in the city’s Theater District. Under artistic director Stanton Welch, appointed in 2003, the company has built a repertoire that pairs full-length classics with a steady stream of his own choreography and commissions from international names. Its Center for Dance, opened in 2011, is among the largest purpose-built dance facilities in North America, housing both the company and the Houston Ballet Academy.
